Program

The Hopper Prize

Our organization supports individual artists through two primary modes: unrestricted grant-making and an online digital archiving platform.

I was very impressed by the quality of the applications; the artists demonstrated material expertise across a wide range of mediums.

Artist Grant Program

Our artist grant program awards 10 individual artist grants annually. The total value of these awards is $10,000.00 USD which is equally divided among winning artists, with each grantee receiving an unrestricted award of up to $1,000.00 USD.

Our grants are dispersed twice annually via an open call. We award 5 individual artist grants in the Spring and 5 in the Winter.

Archiving Initiative

Our digital archiving initiative seeks to make artists' work available for future audiences. 30 artists from each award cycle are selected to have a their work, biographies, and links to their personal websites archived at hopperprize.org. Our aim is to build a comprehensive archive of prize recipients and shortlisted artists that will serve as a resource for curators, gallery owners, collecters, and arts enthusiasts.

Who We Support

Inclusivity is one of our core values and a guiding principle of our organization. We are committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at all stages of their professional careers. We view the field of visual arts in its broadest and most inclusive sense and therefore make our awards available to artists engaged in artistic practices spanning all methods of production.

Open to Everyone

We welcome applications from artists of all ages and experience levels working in any and all disciplines, including painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, video, documentary, performing, experimental, conceptual, and installation practices.

Our primary objective is to make it possible for artists to fully realize their creative expression while reaching new curatorial audiences, collectors, writers, and advisors.

Selection Process

Winning artists are selected through an open call for proposals. The Hopper Prize is a merit based grant. Recipients are chosen based on the quality of their work as determined by the curators for that award cycle.

Guest curators are selected exclusively through a nomination process to ensure fairness and objectivity throughout the jurying process.
