Artist Statement
My work explores the vibrant energy in silence and stillness, and how a penumbra can act as a place of revelation and omission. I have found that the subtle and ambiguous areas of shadow stimulate the imagination and activate visual sensitivity and nostalgia. In these shadowed spaces, I aspire to create moments of suspense, visual puns, and a sense of discordant reality. Frequently, my subjects come from personal references, historical facts, and scientific research which are then decontextualized and transformed into nonlinear fictional narratives. Nonetheless, in the last year, my perspective shifted inward, and I developed an interest in the mirage-like aspects of the familiar and mundane, resulting in the desire to depict the unnoticed.
