Artist Statement
My work explores the intersection of memory, spirituality, and cultural narrative through photography, wearable sculpture, and performance. I create immersive pieces that honor Afro-diasporic spiritual practices, blending ritual, color, and material to engage viewers in collective reflection. In series like Para Tú Altar: Las Fuerzas Divinas de la Naturaleza, I construct sculptural garments that transform the body into a vessel of memory and devotion, captured through photography.
In performance works such as The Sound That Fell Like Water, I expand this practice into three dimensions, incorporating recycled materials and found objects to activate everyday symbols into monumental, living forms. Each piece negotiates the space between personal and collective history, inviting audiences to participate in the dialogue between tradition and contemporary experience. My work is rooted in the belief that art can create empathy, honor cultural legacies, and transform ordinary materials into vessels of ritual and reflection.
