Trish Tillman

New York

Artist Statement

Trish Tillman is a NYC artist who creates provocative altars that contain references to family dynamics, sexuality, gender inequality, and imbalances of power. She summons an adolescent attitude by using the comforting artifacts of home and the sensuous materials of subculture. By meticulously upholstering emblematic shapes with horsehair, chain, studs or glass, she transforms the idea of rebellion into high-end fetish, exposing the vulnerabilities and strengths within her subjects.
