Artist Statement
I am a painter living and working in northern New Mexico. The paintings in this series center on elemental forces—earth, heat, space, water, air—expressed through abstract compositions mimicing the undulations of land, sky, and sea. The works reflect a quiet reverence for the vastness of space, the pulse of nature, and the invisible forces that shape both. They begin from explorations in remote and wild spaces I travel to, draw within, and come home to paint the sensory memories of.
Working intuitively, I build each surface slowly, allowing forms to emerge through translucency, repetition, and gesture. The combination of oil and wax creates a luminous skin—at once atmospheric and tactile—where movement, light, and energy seem to circulate. These works do not immediately depict specific places, but rather evoke an internal geography: dreamlike, spacious, and alive with elemental presence.
Through this work, I invite viewers to slow down, to attune to what lies beneath the surface, and to consider their place within a larger, interconnected system—cosmic, ecological, and human.
