Artist Statement
Through storytelling, photography, and photo-sculptures, I critique the detrimental consequences of today’s capitalist society through a middle-class Asian immigrant lens.
My project, "21 Grams- the Weight of Souls", interviews and photographs artists forced to postpone their dreams to survive under the capitalist regime. My surrealist visual language, built upon my background in the biomedical field, reimagines our world by mirroring societal distortion. Using photo-sculptures of resin-coated digital textile prints, I interweave themes of labor commodification within our contemporary social fabric. Stories of alienation and the power of art reveal themselves as viewers are confronted with faces of subjugated creatives.
